Dixie Highway Road MarkerOn April 3, 1915 the name "Dixie Highway" was chosen to honor "Fifty Years of Peace between the North and the South" and these red road signs were placed along a route of main roads linking Sault St. Marie, Michigan in the north to just past Miami Florida in the South.

LUS 1 Dixie Highway Markerater, in 1925 when the U.S. Highway system was laid out across America, the portion of the Dixie Highway between Jacksonville Florida and Miami was designated as  US 1. Automobiles were the main way people traveled and these signs brought the vacationers South for the sunshine, beaches and to escape the cold of the Northern Winters. Motels and Motor Lodges sprung up all along the route and some years later, the Barefoot Mailman Motel was born!

 

Map ImageThe Barefoot Mailman Motel is located in the Town of Lantana just south of the Palm Beaches on Eastern Florida's famous "Gold Coast". We are at the white "X"! The motel is centrally located on Dixie Highway (US 1) about 1 block from the Intracoastal Waterway  and a short 20 minute walk to the beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. Restaurants and shops are close by offering our visitors an opportunity to experience the easygoing lifestyle of the local residents. Check out our GOOGLE Map link at the top of the page.
 
Map Image LantanaWe are just East of the I-95 main highway between the Lantana Road and Hypoluxo Road Exits. This centralized location makes for easy access to Sport Fishing, Local Attractions, National Parks, Theme Parks and so much more! Coming in by plane? We offer pick-up and drop-off at Miami, Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood and Palm Beach International Airports for a small, additional charge. Need to rent a car? We work with several Rental Agencies where you can rent a car for a Special Rate! We still operate like a small family business and we are willing to go the extra mile to treat our guests like family.  We have recently added a Coin Operated Washer and Dryer for our guests!
Palm Tran Bus service is available every 20 minutes daily right outside the motel. Palm Tran services Eastern Palm Beach County from Boca Raton in the South to North Palm Beach in the North and Belle Glades near Lake Okeechobee in the West.  At $3.50 for an All Day PASS, you can shop and sightsee until you drop!  You can check out the Route Map and Schedule for Fares and Times by clicking on the picture to the left.
Tri Rail provides a Link to Schedules and Fares Tri-Rail Train service is a short distance from the motel and Palm Tran offers a FREE or Discounted service to and from the trains. Trains run from just below Miami in the South to Mangonia Park (North Palm Beach) in the North and they service both the Miami International Airport and the Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale Intl.
